10 Days - Cape Town and the Garden Route - From £650

Our 10 Day Cape Town and Garden Route Itinerary will take you from Cape Town in the Western Cape to Stellenbosch for a night, then through the Overberg and along the Garden Route to Knysna returning to Cape Town via Oudtshoorn and the Karoo.

Days 1 to 4

Spend 4 nights in Cape Town seeing the city sights such as Green Market Square, the Grand Parade, The Castle of Good Hope and the Company Gardens. Climb to the top of Table Mountain or, for the less adventurous, take the cable car and see the stunning views of the city. Take a boat trip to Robben Island where Nelson Mandela and others were incarcerated for many years during the apartheid era. Stroll around the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront and sample the local seafood delicacies in one of the many riverfront restaurants.

After exploring the city centre, try one of the many beautiful beaches nearby. Drive over the spectacular Chapman’s Peak for wonderful coastal views until you reach the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve and Cape Point, the most south-westerly point of Africa. Wander around the quaint fishing villages of the Cape Peninsula and stop off to see the penguin colony at Boulders Bay. Overnight in Cape Town.

Day 5

You can take one of our popular wine tours in the Cape winelands region to sample world class wine amongst picture-postcard scenery. Leave the car behind and take a guided tour through the Stellenbosch, Paarl and Franschhoek reqion with our local wine specialists. Enjoy lunch whilst overlooking the region’s prettiest rolling countryside. Overnight in Stellenbosch.

Day 6

Drive through the Overberg to Mossel Bay. Laze on the beautiful sandy beach or see the Post Office Tree where sailors and early explorers left their letters. This massive milkwood tree became the first post office in South Africa. Visit the Bartholomew Diaz Museum where they have a replica of the explorer’s caravel.  Overnight in Mossel Bay.

Day 7

Take a leisurely drive along the Garden Route to Knysna and the lovely Knysna Lagoon. The Garden Route offers lush green countryside, more beaches and cool forest walks. Choose one of the walking trails in the huge Knysna Forest or try a catamaran trip on the lagoon. Overnight in Knysna.

Day 8

Drive to Oudtshoorn and visit an ostrich farm. Learn about ostrich rearing and their eggs and purchase some of the beautiful leather goods made from their unique skins. Visit the world famous Cango Caves and stop off at the Cango Wildlife Ranch to tour the crocodile enclosures and get a bird’s eye view of their magnificent family of cats including leopards and cheetahs. Overnight in Oudtshoorn.

Day 9

Return along Route 62 through the contrasting Karoo region. Stop in picturesque little towns like Calitzdorp, Montagu, Worcester and Robertson each uniquely well-known for either their wine, brandy, or port production. Drive over spectacularly scenic mountain passes before returning to Cape Town. Overnight in Cape Town.

Day 10

Make some last minute shopping purchases or have a last chance to soak up the atmosphere in Cape Town before flying home.
